Ink - Menka

Menka (lit. Cotton flower) is a smoked ink, as its name suggests, with cotton seed oil, which provides purity in the black produced. Menka is free from any turbidity and offers a shiny finish with a brownish aftertaste reminiscent of oolong tea. It is an excellent quality ink, both for Kanji, for Kana, and for sumi-e works.

Engravings and inscriptions: Menka (front), cotton flowers (back)
Example of use: Calligraphy (Kanji and Kana), works of art, sumi-e paintings, etc.
